Speaker Conference
ABORIGINAL YOUTH CONFERENCE 2012
Concept Statement: "Dreamcatcher of Hope"
The Aboriginal Youth Conference is an annual event for youths to participate in educational workshops and exciting cultural shows with others from the community. The conference provides indigenous youths the opportunity to engage with mentors and elders in a meaningful way.
The concept statement of this project is “Dreamcatcher of Hope.” According to the legends of the Ojibwa people, the night air is always filled with floating dreams. The dreamcatchers are circular halos with web-like embroidery on the middle to act as a spider’s web. The hole in the middle of the embroidery is where the good dreams are guided to the sleeper. The bad dreams never know the way in and easily become entangle in the dreamcatcher, which traps them until the first rays of the sun hits and destroys them.
The design of the speaker conference kit was created to appeal to youths. The style of photographs, typography, and earth-tones colours were combined to create contrast and compliment the design as a whole.
